Leading the way by trailing behind: KUHN unveils the Advance .1 Series fertilizer spreaders
Growers across North America have a new reason to rejoice thanks to an innovative line of equipment built to stand out in the field. The Advance™ .1 Series trailed fertilizer spreaders from KUHN — boasting wide working widths coupled with unparalleled accuracy — are designed for the operator keen on utilizing the highest precision broadcast fertilizer spreader on the market without sacrificing the ability to make high-volume applications.
“The ability to do both is what sets us apart,” says Phil Loduha, product management specialist at Kuhn North America, Inc. The cutting-edge design is engineered to help larger row-crop farmers and commercial operators alike cover more acres in a shorter period of time while maximizing their bottom line. Two models offer capacities of 300 and 350 cubic feet and working widths of up to 164 feet.
With the Advance™ .1 Series, KUHN puts to rest an age-old dilemma and creates a win-win for growers and crops across the country.
“At the rear of the machines, we have two different modules — one for high precision spreading and the other for high volume spreading — that is unique in the industry,” says Loduha, pointing to a pair of switchable power packs as the trailed fertilizer spreader’s most important feature.
The Axis® PowerPack, designed for precision spreading, is hydraulically driven and comes with innovative features like EMC rate control for highly accurate metering of fertilizer; section, headland and border control; plus, a CDA system for accuracy in wide spread patterns for granular fertilizer, broadcast seed application and cover crops. The optional Universal PowerPack allows high-volume spreading of lime and other soil amendments that growers need to apply in tons per acre rather than pounds per acre.
To complement the most precise application rate control on the market (a process aided by GPS mapping), the Advance™ .1 Series trailed fertilizer spreaders boast higher overall volume when compared with mounted machines — ideal for both in-season fertilizer application and pre- or post-season spreading.
“The technology that's going into these fertilizer spreaders, especially the Axis PowerPack, actually comes from our partners in Germany where it’s been in use for over 20 years,” says Loduha. Features such as a 304 stainless steel hopper (designed to resist corrosion), adjustable axle width, a high-clearance frame and multiple tire options converge to create a package that is both functional and attractive to the North American operator.
“What’s really going to speak to customers are the high-precision features that help with both nutrient management and fertilizer efficiency while minimizing environmental impact,” says Loduha.
